What is Rosemary Good For? Rosemary health benefits
“There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance: pray, love, remember.”
This line from Hamlet shows that Shakespeare, the famous writer, knew the great uses of rosemary.
Long after Shakespeare’s time, different studies have also shown many ways rosemary is good for your health, whether it is used fresh, dried, or as an oil.
Rosemary has strong antioxidants, can kill germs, block cancer, bring down swelling, and fight infections.
It also has some vitamins and minerals, like vitamins A and C, thiamin, riboflavin, folate, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc and copper. The woodsy, citrus-like smell of rosemary essential oil is also found in beauty products and used in aromatherapy.
Besides its health and beauty uses, rosemary is also used as a cooking herb by many people. Fresh or dried rosemary can be added to soups, sandwiches, salads, dips, and even be used for making infused oil. Also, rosemary tea is a well-liked drink.
Here are some ways rosemary can be good for your health.
1. Boosts Memory
Rosemary works as a cognitive stimulant, helpful for boosting memory and mental focus. It is even good at raising brain- wave activities and guarding against neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s disease.
2. Fights Stress and Anxiety
The sweet smell of rosemary is helpful for clearing your mind and easing stress. Its calming nature even helps soothe tense muscles.
3. Alleviates Headaches
Rosemary dulls pain and brings down swelling, so it can soothe headaches. It can even help ease the pain and strength of migraines.
4. Stimulates Hair Growth
This wonderful herb also helps hair growth. It boosts blood circulation to the scalp, which lets more nutrients reach the hair follicles.
5. Reduces Inflammation
Rosemary is helpful for easing pain and swelling.
It helps soothe arthritis pain, sciatic nerve pain, gout pain, back pain, and stiff neck. Because it stops spasms, this herb also helps ease menstrual pains.
6. Strengthens the Immune System
Rosemary gives you a powerful shield against different diseases and germs that may harm your immune system.
7. Treats Respiratory Problems
You can also use this herb to treat respiratory infections like cold and flu, sinus infection, and bronchial asthma. This is because rosemary is soothing, kills bacteria, and stops spasms. It also helps lessen bad breath.
8. Improves Digestion
Rosemary is great for your stomach because it controls how much bile is let out, and fights germs from food. It also boosts the appetite, treats indigestion, and eases gas buildups, bloating, and constipation.
9. Prevents High Blood Sugar
Diabetic people can use rosemary oil to control their blood sugar levels. Rosemary extracts can lower glucose and cholesterol levels, which helps control Type 2 diabetes and other metabolic conditions.
When taking this herb to help with diabetes, make sure you keep checking your blood sugar levels. Also, keep taking your regular medicines as your doctor tells you.
Extra tips:
Don’t use rosemary essential oil during pregnancy, or if you have epilepsy, hypertension, or bleeding disorders.
Before using rosemary oil on the skin, test it on a little part of the skin to make sure you’re not allergic to it.
Do not eat a lot of rosemary.

I know I have been pretty quiet in the last few months but I have had a ton of changes going on in my life. After 10 years of trying, I finally moved to New Hampshire and am excited to start a new life here. I have been very busy relocating and working on my Diplomate in Clinical Nutrition.
I've had a pleasant surprise over the last few months. My YouTube page has just crossed over 6 million views.
I believe great food is the best medicine to heal the body so I have always been interested in growing my own. I made a documentary about dropping out of the rat race and farming for a living. It's called "Screw This Job, I am Going to Be a Farmer." I put the whole documentary up for free on YouTube and thousands of people are watching it every day. It is just about to pass 1/4 million views and is showing no sign of slowing. The film is doing so well people are insisting I make more. In case you missed it or want to watch it again, here is a link to watch it completely free: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxT9bqe7nbQ
I want to make a second follow-up film and could use your advice. This documentary will spotlight more unusual small farms. What are Your Top 3 Farm Ideas that you would like me to document? If you have an idea that is not listed, please respond and tell me what it is.
mushrooms
cranberries
cherries
petting zoo
solar farm
healing herbs
tree farming
alpacas
emu
deer
pot/hemp
spices
gators
moonshine
sprouts farm
Thanks so much for your help! I will try to stay in better touch.

I absolutely love the fishing line idea! I was about to do something else to thwart the hawks, but the fishing line will help with that and in several other ways. Including, keeping my chickens in my yard. This could have saved me $200 + my labor on a fence because my neighbor said "the chickens will tear up my house". (Property line one foot from neighbors house) Fence dedicated to neighbor with plaque "The fuck you, Bob, fence".

Thinking of unique ideas is free but they pay u well. If u can consider the fact that a job can be an initial part of yr big business plan, u can raise initial funding for yr startup. Getting into a job is free and they r gonna pay u. If u are damn serious about a start up, u'll not only save big but also earn much better than others in yr competition. Serious and sincere efforts put into a job can give that most valuable experience which u'll definitely need when u start up and try to run yr own business.
The important mantra to remember is that "Nothing comes for free".

Pay yr debts by the earliest possible, that's the first step towards building credibility among the potential investors. Very well said. The most important thing is to have proper knowledge of yr abilities and limits and a complete understanding of whatever u r gonna do. For many years i just kept dreaming of doing big but never had any courage to practically do something. It's always a fabulous dream and remains a dream as long we keep dreaming it and do nothing bout it. U can read a million books on it, get trained by people who became billionaires overnight or watch another million videos on YouTube but it all comes down to taking the first step and sincerely doing whatever is needed. That's the beginning of a success story. Once u r into serious business, u will develop the instincts and automatically know what u need to do next. That's what makes us humans different from the other animals, if anything.

People like this that call what he's doing a "no money" start-up have no clue. It took him thousands to get where he is. Judging by the way he looks and talks he's a little bit on the privileged side of life. The fact that the video's title is a big fat lie is also pointing towards rich kid. Just another self righteous yuppie spending other people's money.

Up Your Nutritional Game
Like we mentioned, garlic has some potent medicinal properties, such as being packed with vitamins while also being very low in calories. Garlic is rich in manganese, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and substantial amount of selenium, calcium, potassium, just to name a few – all while only having 42 calories per serving!
Strengthen Your Immune System
Garlic is also known to boost the immune system and can help combat sickness like the common cold. Research has also shown that incorporating garlic into your daily diet can reduce your risk of getting sick by up to 63%! This can be especially useful if you’re someone prone to getting colds.
Keeping Your Heart Healthy
Add cardiovascular health to this list while you’re at it. If ingested regularly, garlic can also help reduce your risk for heart disease and help your body process cholesterol more efficiently.
Also, garlic can be really beneficial if you’re someone who struggles with high blood pressure! Share Source: harvesttotable.com
In additional to being a super-food, garlic is also super easy to grow.
All you need to do is follow these simply 5 steps:
Break up the garlic bulb into cloves and bury them a couple inches deep in loose, damp soil.
Make sure you keep the pointed side of the clove facing upwards.
When your garlic sprouts, make sure to give them water when the topsoil feels dry but be sure to not overwater – garlic tends to not need too much water.
Cut off any flowers that bloom to preserve the flavor of your garlic.
Once your garlic plant has 5 or 6 leaves, it’s ready to be pulled up!

Cardboard sheets used to sell loose eggs work well - easy to remove/replace individual bulbs. You WILL need a pretty good sized area put aside for garlic though. The "Health benefits" point for Garlic is, apparently, about 17 cloves of garlic per day - you may find this is because at that doseage, nobody can get close enough to infect you with anything :) You'll need a good-sized greenhouse shelf per person per year just to eat enough. Maybe concentrate on other "superplants" with better return-per-pound...See more

That was my question, the picture is very misleading. I was hoping there was a way to grow garlic indoors in quantity.......and that was the reason for the picture.

Trudy Douglas that is one of the problems with "consumerized" social media pages (even 'better' ones). They are designed, like TV, to attract "eyeballs" ($$), so will show ANY image whether appropriate, or not.

Trudy Douglas you can grow it in pots, just make sure the pot is 10" deep. Remove the flowers when they appear, and you'll get really nice garlic.
You can also trim the scapes, long greens, but don't trim too much as it will make your garlic smaller.

I was led to understand that it had to go through a freeze cycle first, just like a tulip or daffodil bulb. maybe not?

You can simulate that cycle by putting it in the freezer. Put the bulbs in a pot of soil, freeze for a week, then pull them out. You can get tulips to bloom for Christmas this way too.

"42 calories per serving"? Are you kidding? What is considered a "serving" of garlic for that particular metric? A whole bulb? Because a teaspoon of chopped raw garlic, which is about one clove, contains only 4 calories. Who is going to eat more than ten TIMES that much at once? (Other than paranoiacs concerned about vampires?)

I do not think this will work with Cheep CHinese garlic in Auz becuz any viable food/seed is gamma radaited on arrival. SO buy the expensive large bulbed Aussie one or hope you can find some non-chinese at your local farmers market.

I have grown cheap 'grocery store garlic' (probably from China; I didn't know about that until this week!) from at least 4 different sources: starting last fall, I used leftover sprouting garlic that I had bought at Kroger, then a friend gave me some more (2 kinds, one large one small). They all grew. I planted store garlic again this year, from grocer Meijer, back in September. It's coming right along. I also have some plants from organic, certified disease free 'seed' cloves, from my cousin...See more

Garlic scapes, the curly garlic leaf tips, should be broken off for larger heads. The scapes are delicious in salads and/or pickled. Yum...!!!

This is a strategy to produce garlic greens, but the entire process of re-producing full 'heads' of takes about a year. I don't believe the article was clear on this point. Either way, garlic greens are very useful.

Really crappy story, you can't pull the garlic up as soon as it gets five leaves, the bulb wont have time to form into separate cloves. In the north also you have to over-winter garlic to get a decent crop, planting it in fall and mulching through the winter. It sounds as though the writer has never grown garlic.

When you say 5 leaves and it's ready to be pulled up, is that harvest? Or replanted?

When planting in the fall, put 1 tsp bone meal and 1 tsp Epsom salt in the hole then the garlic section. Mulch well. They grow throughout the winter then come up in the spring. When a couple bottom leaves die/dry up then it can be harvested. Replant in late fall! An Amish farmer told me how to grow garlic!

The optimum time to harvest is when the leaves turn brown, that way you end up with large heads.

Brianna Cornish ... For our info .... 5 or 6 leaves indicates harvest time - can trim leaves but that inhibits garlic size. About 9 months to harvest apparently. Only water when earth is dry. All good! Bring on sunshine.

'It's easier to grow grapes in PH than in US, Europe'

MANILA, Philippines – While most Filipinos think that it is impossible to grow grapes in the Philippines because of its warm weather, an expert in viticulture stressed that the country is a better place for the fruit than the United States and Europe -- two places where most of the world’s wines are produced.
Unknown to many, the Philippines has been home to several vineyards, said Avelino Lomboy, who has been growing grapes in the country for more than four decades.
He said some of these are located in La Union, Cebu, Cotabato, Iloilo, Masbate and Nueva Ecija.
“In the Philippines, we have the best climate for grapes, which is 25 to 34 degrees Centigrade,” Lomboy explained. “And the temperatures the whole year round stay that way until winter. In Europe, you only grow [grapes] once a year. Here, you can grow [grapes] the whole year.”
“Grapes grow based on summer, so we have the whole year. Heat is not a problem,” he added, referring to the misconception that grapes need cold weather to grow.
Asked if Baguio is a suitable environment for grapes, Lomboy said: “No, because it’s gloomy. The grapes need sunlight. ‘Yung grapes sa Baguio are coming from La Union. Probably coming from me.”
Lomboy has been tapped to help put up the first vineyard in Tagaytay, a picturesque city that is about two hours away from Manila. The 10-hectare vineyard will be part of Twin Lakes, a real estate project of Global Estate Resorts Inc. The company is a subsidiary of the Andrew Tan-led Alliance Global Inc. which also operates Megaworld, among others.
For the vineyard, Lomboy will be working with local brandy maker Emperador and Spanish brandy house San Bruno, which are both owned by Alliance Global.

“We’re also building a chateau, which means we’ll have our own winery,” explained Harold Geronimo, Megaworld’s director for strategic marketing and communications. “We’ll be storing the grapes and we’ll age them. The company of Mr. Tan will be handling the production of the wines.”
Soil not a problem
Lomboy also reacted to questions about the Philippine soil, one of the most important things to consider when planting grapes.
“There’s no problem with the soil quality here,” he said, adding, “[and even if there is] you can condition the soil, or even replace it.”
The primary concern of viticulturists like him, Lomboy said, is the weather. This, according to him, is what gives the Philippines the edge over countries with cooler temperatures.
“In the Philippines, from planting to first harvest, it’s below one year. In America, it will take you three years. Why? Because of autumn and winter, stop ang growth. Pero ang Pilipinas, tuluy-tuloy ang growth because of the sunlight. Mas madaling mag-grow ng grapes sa Pilipinas,” he said.
First fine wines in PH?
With the project, the Andrew Tan-owned company is expected to produce the country’s first fine wines, said Geronimo, who cited the expertise of Lomboy and their Spanish partners.
“So it’s the best of both worlds, Europe and the Philippines. The Philippines with Mr. Lomboy’s expertise for more than four decades in growing grapes, plus the expertise of those growing grapes in Spain. Bring them together to produce the finest wines in the Philippines, the first finest Philippine wines,” he said.
The products of the planned vineyard – mostly wine and brandy – will be sold by Emperador.
But they are not going to do all the work: Alliance Global is also considering to sell lands to those who might want to plant their own grapes.

“We are eyeing certain lots within the area which can be used as a vineyard as well by other interested growers,” said Erwin Francis Go, Megaworld’s vice president for sales and marketing.
“So we’re not just confined to our own vineyard – we’re offering it already to others who might want to build their own vineyard here. We have pockets of available land for them to grow their own vineyard,” he added.
As for the taste of local wines, Lomboy said these are generally sweeter than the ones sold in the United States and Europe, and is expected to be a hit among Filipinos.
“Iba ang napro-produce ng tropical countries because of the heat,” he explained. “Mataas ang sugar content kaysa asim. Kaya iba ito sa Europe.”
Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay
The vineyard will be situated within a 177-hectare mixed use area, which is aptly called The Vineyard. The property will feature a low-rise hotel and three towers of condominiums labeled Merlot, Chardonnay and Shiraz -- just like the grape varieties.

The one- and two-bedroom units are priced between P7 million and P12 million each, depending on the size of the balcony, and will be ready by 2017.
Other establishments are also set to occupy the 1,149-hectare Twin Lakes, from shopping areas and restaurants to retirement homes, schools and nature parks.
